Edits/Notes: This is the only recording of the show, from Mike Rivard's DA-P1.
No audience mics were present. Mike's DA-P1 was run by the sound engineer at
Club Helsinki as Mike was obviously playing music. The deck was not started on
time, hence the cut 'Left Hand of Clyde' opener. Fade in on d1t01 due to cut
master tape. Splice and crossfade during during intro to Howara (d2t07) due to
master tape change(sounds like 1-2 min was missed).

What a lineup
Whenever you have Medeski, Brahim and both Maneris its damn near impossible to not to have a smokin show. Not only are these guys top notch musicians but they understand the Club d'Elf concept is not about soloing and showcasing your individual talent but they come together and make it all about the music. Definitely not for everybody but thats partly what makes it so amazing. Mike Rivard is a genius.

You have to know how to listen to this stuff: it's improv, OK? I find this band excellent. Also I'm from Great Barrington & I miss the Helsinki. I just wish Cd'E would come out to Oregon.

i like it man...its kinda like how you try to control a dream but your dream just takes you down a path you might not be into but it is still vibrant all the same.

abrasive jazz jamming
I grabbed this show because it was in the 'this day in history' box on today's archive.org front page. I've heard the band's name on the LMA for years, but never listened to their music .. I gave them a shot .. great recording: the drums and all instruments are mic'd well and it sounds great. The show quality though: just not my thing. These jams just go on and on .. with the sax squaking abrasively often (and I usually love a good horn) but it just is so experimental / free form it has no form and is hard to enjoy. The songs are just all over the place and if there are vocals (d2t05 I think has someone talking) but it gets lost fully. I wasn't impressed in the 5 or so random songs I sampled from this show, and it wasn't enough for me to cut the show short and just decide this band wasn't for me. Sorry!
